Shortbread Company at the Shelburne Farms Fine
Wine and Food Show
As I mentioned
in our September newsletter, Vermont Shortbread
Company hosted a shortbread table at the annual
Shelburne
Farms Fine Wine and Food Show. This show is
an annual fundraiser for the Flynn
Center for the Performing Arts and Vermont
Shortbread Company has been a proud participant
for 7 years. It was an amazing early fall day.
My table was strategically located in the historic
coach barn right near a doorway leading to the
courtyard where the auctions and roving musicians
just outside the door. Even Governor Jim Douglas
made an appearance, though I did not manage to
lure him to the Vermont
Shortbread table. Maybe next year!

I recruited some
BNI
friends to help me. Brenda Kerr from Katahdin
Spirit Structural Health in Fairfax handed
out bite sized shortbread morsels to eager festival
goers while Tim Cray of Delight
Full Time Catering Services in St. Albans
enticed many to sign up for the Short
Bites e-zine and set up a beautiful display
for me. We all had a great time schmoozing, eating,
and people watching.

Would you look
at this perfect shortbread?
Tim thought the red cloth napkin would highlight
its beautiful baked-in goodness and he was right.
We set up several 8” shortbread rounds on
a tiered pedestal and chopped up 25 more rounds
into small pieces in pretty baskets for festival
participants to taste as they passed by our table.
I think we may have had to cut up this golden
beauty toward the end of the festival because
we couldn’t keep up with the demand!

Hooligans or future
product models? I know these guys and hooligans
they’re not, though it’s always fun
to tease my many friends who show up at the food
and wine festival. They enjoyed the free wine
and the nifty little plates with the notch for
their wine glasses (so they can hold their plate
and glass with one hand and leave the other hand
free to grab more shortbread!). Often festival
goers come back two, three, four times to my table
and the smart ones know that at the end of the
festival, I sometimes give away free shortbread
so I don’t have to haul it back to my car.
